Not very Spring like at present

Blown horizontal, a scrap of plastic tell-tale hints at the wind strength in Penzance wet dock.....
where the Gry Maritha is still undergoing repairs - Scilly will be desperate for those barrels of beer waiting on the quayside.....
as will the builders waiting for the sand to be delivered...
PD 235 Calisha is down on the scallops and won't be happy with the current weather conditions - dredges don't like any lift in the water....
time for a quick scrub and overhaul for Quentin's Sea Spirit
heading back to tier is the Crystal Sea......
after putting a fresh set of combination sweeps aboard.

A draft through the market

Visiting Peterhead scalloper, Calisha....
along Penzance Promenade, the only promenade in Cornwall, a local dog walker and dog dodge the spray.....
as a chilly wind whips its way through the fish market...

the boys on the Padstow netter, Berlewen get their fish into the back of the waiting transport.

Fresh , cold draft tonight

With a stiff sou'-easterly breeze blowing up the harbour, skipper David Stephens carefully puts the Crystal Sea into tier...

seems the Dom Bosco's paintwork has been suffering from the heavy weather she has been through this year.

Must have been in the stars

Not a steel hull in view down the entire length of the North Quay...
PZ 1202 Gemini Twins heads in through the gaps with the guys looking back over the stern in wonder and awe, but why? Well, a few lucky souls were able to witness one of those rare events that comes around every now and then when the sky is filled with flying pigs and certain stars align themselves in juxtaposition with the planets.......
when, out of the gloom and the heavy, forbidding clouds the Cornwall Sea Fisheries ship,  St Piran hurtles in through the gaps - Shane and the boys must have had a whip-round for some fuel to get the old girl out to sea, in a flat calm of course!

Beamers only market this morning

Over in the Old harbour, PZ 779 is for sale, complete with fishing licence, call 07902009954 for more information...
looking at the punt for sale from the bow....

masts, spars and fittings get a coat of 'black' on the Ripple, courtesy of John Lambourn, keen to get the rigging completed as soon as possible...
if you are coming to Newlyn, there's a B&B with fine views overlooking the harbour at the old Smugglers Hotel, 01726 334501
or, if you fancy a more permanent move, this waterside property in the Old Harbour gives views over the harbour and right across the Bay to St Michael's Mount and beyond, they don't come better....
get that paint on while the sun shines, the old ABS, soon to be known as the Emma Louise gets a top coat on her shelterdeck.....
as can be seen here with Mike wearing the first of the new T shirts for skipper and crew, all clothing, flags and bunting for the Rowse fleet supplied by the Bag 'o Rags clothing company, based in Penzance Dock...
first visit this morning in a long time for the Brixham beamer, Three Sons...
new fittings on the Lisa Jacqueline's derrick get a lick of zinc base coat....
the Valhalla may soon be moving away from the port.....
St Ives registered punt, SS144 has anew mini-hauler fitted for the coming season.....
on the market a handful of boxes from punts over the weekend inlcuded this shot of mullet from the Clairvoyant....
and several boxes of bass from the Storm Petrol......
these days the Penlee Quarry Marina development now sports a smart new entrance that has been carved in the side of the cliff......
a full load of ice comes down the shoot for the beamer Sapphire, planning on getting three days in before the forecast gale of wind on Thursday hits the coats.....
so Roger on the Nantewan gets away quickly after taking ice.
over in Mousehole, a punt loaded with withy pots will no doubt be photographed a million times this summer by visiting trippers.

at rest.
