Misty morn

The harbour waits for the sun to burn off the early morning cloud cover......
as one of the local fishers looks for breakfast......
though something smaller than the resident seal's might be an idea.......
not much in the way of table manners........
another Irish visitor.......
a young gull still trying to lose his baby feathers......
back in early for a landing of crab.

Shells of one sort and another

Crabs beware......
another Windcat from Fleetwood passes through.....
around 600 bags go ashore......
and 80 gallons of lube oil go aboard.......
the Girvan boy gets in on the act too.......
in a for landing, the TN scallop fleet......
up on the slip the Nellie gets a scrub.......
and blast off topsides.

Last of the netters away

New York registered yacht from Greenport takes a turn before heading to a berth on the pontoons....
boys and their toys, three hands set sail from the Canner's slip on a racing cat......
with plenty of sunshine and a prevailing wind the harbour has its own mini Sargasso see thing going on behind the slip winch-house.....
after working flat out, the Sapphire has a fresh coat above and below the waterline.....
still trying to get their racing cat away from the pontoons......
Harvest Reaper makes for the netting grounds.......
more wire gone aboard the William Sampson........
another netter leaves the harbour.......
just as the Crystal Sea II makes her way in, looking a little forlorn now her Scottish pal, the Tranquility has deserted her and headed back up north of the border and back on the prawns......
making her way slowly across from Penzance wet dock, PZ10 makes for the slip.....
as the Emma Louise slows down before the gaps.......

Ducking and diving

Quick run for the IRB just on tea time.....
quick paint job for the Sapphire too.......
heads down - inshore fishing cormorant style........
seems a certain mascot had a tough night under the shade of the security tower.....
Janner passes a ehfty cat at anchor......
all that filleted small haddock now ends up aboard the Emma Louise as bait......
originally from Lowestoft.......
checking round the Harvest Reaper to see where the water is coming in
at sea and fully rigged as a sail boat, the ex-Rowse crabber Steren Va Bro......
Penzance sailing club dinghys get ready for the evening sessions.

Flying Dutchman

Big stern draggers are not a common sight at this time of year in the Bay......
but there are a growing number of yachts about, some at anchor off the back of Penzance Dock......
Britannia IV heads away for the day......
beamer by-catch, bits of Franco-Spanish rubbish in the bin wait to be collected.......
classic gaff rigged Tectona lays at anchor in Gwavas Lake.......
with crab a plenty local pubs like the Red Lion in Newlyn are doing a roaring trade
along with the award winning Smuggler's Restaurant.......
doesn't seem like a year ago since the Sapphire was on the slip for a paint up......
two contrasting French yachts on the marina berths......
warps a-penty from Holland

iFish

The chance to purchase a Saltram 24, one of the quality local punts up for sale.....
"two teas please".......
an overland consignment of fish from Southern Ireland included these small haddock that ended up going for bait, the quality was mixed as if several boats were combined in the one sale.......
St Ives mackerel are on the move.......
Celtic Fish and Game couldn't resist the porbeagle shark, a great choice for the local restaurants and BBQ trade.....
not often seen on markets in the south west, whole monk from a Falmouth inshore boat, Reuben Luke........
straight from the nets, some good sized grey mullet.......
and bass to wet the buyer's appetites.......
aboard the Inspiration, Dick has been busy with the withy pots again, quality lobsters looking cheerful in their kelp seaweed beds to keep them ailve and kicking......
coming to the end of the turbot season the Ocean Spray makes another good landing.

Sparkling sea

Steady as she goes, George lands the St Georges over the weekend.....
and the boxed fish heads off for the market coldstore.....
butterfly heaven, the RNLI's budlea plant if flowering well this year......
Merv makes his way in aboard the Snowdrop.......
still time to catch the latest art works at the Orion gallery by Newlyn Green........
she needs to be, the Cornish sardines are proving elusive!
