Sailaway.

All that remains of the Christmas lights is the scaffolding......
bound away for her home port under power, the Pacific Swift happy to be away from the attentions of the Border Agency who spent five days searching her from stem to stern while she was in Newlyn......
also bound away in the early morning sunshine, the Filadelfia.......
those big beamer men like their big bikes......
they go with the big gear, a day's work ahead......
empty bait bins for the crab fleet.......

Door to door with cuttlefish.

A good trip of mixed fish from the CKS alongside the Gary M almost filled the western end of the market......
while there were around twelve tons of sepia to sort through at the other end......
just the beginnings of the morning's cuttlefish trade.....
all sorted by hand.....
into the gray harbour boxes that are used especially for the cuttles - this is where sepia ink was, and still is, in some parts made from......

Another deepwater fish has made the news, this time the uniquely ugly blobfish has been used to highlight the call to protect the deepwater areas from which these fish are trawled.

The netter Sowenna landed this example from the ugly group of fishes in the shape of a velvet bellied shark in 1992.

a good start to the year's fundraising for the harbour lights courtesy of Debbie and the other stalwart Light's supporters at the Star Inn......
Boys from the Blackstuff - those old enough to remember the TV drama of the same name that captured the Thatcher era of the early 1980s with devastating accuracy may recall that the most memorable character Yosser played by Bernard Hill, captured and embodied the mood of a depressed Britain to such an extent that the viewing figures for episode 4, Yosser's Story fell by a third, as many were so concerned that he would harm or even kill his children - a TV drama unequalled for its intensity......

Them there Danes are about

There is a steady stream of Danish and other big pelagic vessels to-ing and fro-ing off Land's End and the Lizard at the moment as they steam between their home ports and the fish off the West coast of Ireland. One of three passing earlier today was HG62, the Benhuir, tracked on the Through the Gaps AIS page heading west.
