The Kookaburra taken from the Fern while steaming to Girvan from Newlyn - both boats spent a summer season on the prawns in the Clyde. John on the Kookaburra decided to stay and built up a successful prawning operation over the years.
He had worked prawns on the west coast of Australia for many years, hence the unusual name for the boat.
