The Giselle and Roger, one of the oldest Douarnenez trip boats and still using line and pole to fish for tuna takes ice before leaving for the grounds. These boats all carried foresails and would use them to reduce fuel consumption. At the start of the tuna season, pole and line boats from Breton ports would head south for the Azores; "seven days steaming, seven days, fishing, seven days steaming home - take plenty of paperbacks" said John-Claude from St Geunole. The french navy provides a mothership to support these boats spread out over thousands of square miles of the Atlantic.
